Congratulations to you and your team for what you have achieved. You have worked really hard for these outcomes. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Koya (Aboriginal Corporation) to share their cultural knowledge with the wider community.

RHONDA MURPHY MANAGER, ABORIGINAL PARTICIPATION AND INVOLVEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF BIODIVERSITY, CONSERVATION AND ATTRACTIONS

Francesca has played a key leadership role in the development of Worl Wangkiny Aboriginal Astronomy Centre at Perth Observatory.

This important initiative has considerable opportunity to help educate our Australian community about Aboriginal culture, to promote cross-cultural knowledge and understanding, and to develop tourism and business opportunities for our Western Australian community, including Aboriginal communities.

Francesca’s role in this role in this project has been outstanding, achieving substantial funding based on a strategic approach for Perth Observatory. This is a real achievement.

The project is also based on wide ranging collaboration, involving both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and individuals. The Centre is becoming a very special part of not only the Perth Observatory but also our broader Perth community!

You were a breath of fresh air and energy….just what the place needed. All those ideas and endlessly chasing grants to make the projects possible.

DEPARTMENT OF BIODIVERSITY, CONSERVATION AND ATTRACTIONS

Francesca has been a very good support base for the Koya Aboriginal Corporation’s drive into the tourism market.

The development of the Aboriginal Nature Trekz Pty Ltd (ANTZ) subsidiary is based around the community development model that Koya has been working towards over many years.

Through the efforts shown by Francesca’s drive and determination in getting an Aboriginal Astronomy Centre attached to the overall operations of the Perth Observatory, ANTZ will provide tour guild training and reconnect our Aboriginal youth to stories relating to the night sky.

Francesca’s vision and awareness of what tourist want to see when visiting Australia, has culminated into a product that will benefit not only the Koya Aboriginal Corporation and the POVG, but also the wider Australian Community and the international visitors that come to our shores, to see and experience Aboriginal stories and culture.

A comprehensive and well-thought out plan for the future that the community has participated in and fully supports for the direction that tourism needs to take in the City of Kalamunda.

KALAMUNDA TOURISM DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Francesca was instrumental in the restoration of rare historical clocks and time pieces at Perth Observatory. These unique artefacts represent an important part of WA’s history and established AWST and the WA border amongst many other important tasks.

Before Francesca took over management of the Observatory, the historical clocks and scientific artefacts were not working and had never been serviced.

Francesca wrote a large funding grant to secure the funds to make the restorations possible. She also worked very hard to plan the project and identify local Master Clockmakers with the unique skills to repair these heritage pieces right here in the Perth Hills. The project was complex with long negotiations, but Francesca made it seem easy.

Thanks to Francesca’s hard work and vision, these valuable clocks and scientific artefacts will now be restored to operational status and will be shared with the world. Without her, WA would have lost an important part of its history. Thank you so much Francesca – we really appreciate your gift to our State’s history and the art of horology.

MAREK KULIGOWSKI

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & PR, TIME PIECE CREATIONS

MEMBER OF MASTER CLOCK AND WATCH MAKERS OF WA INC.

As Manager of the Perth Observatory, Francesca played a major role in securing a high profile Community Project grant from Lotterywest and led the early stages of its implementation.

She wrote the initial submission for our accreditation through the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP), as well as the Finalist-nominated award submission for the 2018 Perth Airport Tourism Awards.

These initiatives and the connections she made within the local community have set Perth Observatory on the path to being a major tourist attraction in the Perth Hills.
